"BasiLan?? heh?? di ba madami yan bomba diyan?? mga putok pati kidnappings??" duh! oH pLease. [o.a ya gadd!] >.<
When people heard stories about Mindanao, particularly in Basilan, they would think that this place isn't a right one to live in. Bombings, kidnappings, terrorisms and such are their descriptions on my hometown. They would even called it as the "Land of Abu-Sayaff". imagine that??.. argg!
Honestly, i had experienced on such when i was in grade school. We lived at our dad's family for 11 years. There was a time when everybody in the house were in a rush to go downstairs in the middle of the night. My aunt woke me up, and all of us laid on the floor, covered our ears with our hands, crying, and asking for guidance from above. Gunshots! Boom! Boom! I was crying and praying because i saw my grandfather who is 73 at that time, my little brother, my cousins screaming. =' (( And so, i screamed too. (haha. katakot kaya)
Some would still ask about the happenings in Basilan, i would just simply say, "Oh! It's fine. 'Yung Jollibee namin dun, dalawang beses ng nabombahan. (*laughs)." Because for me, hearing those stories are already usual to me, and i won't be saying such, "what?? nabomba?? talaga??". Duh?? Having no bombs, kidnappings, gunshots and the like in Basilan will not be normal for the people living there. Because for them, it's already the normal one. = ))
But, don't you ever think?? MEDIA --- they influence people's minds. Yes, it is dangerous, but they EXAGGERATES.
Though, we are already used to such, still we are hoping that this will come to an end. We, the victims are hoping for peace. = ))

Yup! The power of media is overwhelming, and it exaggerates. It should be stopped. Whoa! And yes, we are in continuous search for long-lasting peace. When will we ever attain that? Only time can tell.
ReplyDeleteyeah i agree. i do also experience such things when i attended some national activities. somehow, at my age right now, it is usual for me to hear such things. such words are mellifluous to my ears. i am used with it. they just did not seen yet the beauty of our province. they did not acknowledge the positive side that our province have. nevertheless, it's still ok and will be ok to us. hahahah
ReplyDeleteMedia really exxagerates news. My hometown was also attacked by the Abu Sayaffs I think way back 1995 but I was not living in Ipil that time but if we talk about bombings, kidnappings and etc. such crimes exist anywhere we go, right? We, as citizens must also take care of ourselves and as what Sherwie said, be alert. We must also ask for God's guidance and must pray to Him always. I believe He'll never leave us :)
ReplyDeleteI also encounter some comment sbout with your hometown. Mindanao is really enclosed with the terrorism and in many danger, but we only need to do is to be more alert, be responsinle enough and do balieve in GOD.
